Coach Sweeney is the vision behind Premier Sports Academy Inc.

A multi-sport elite athlete, coach Sweeney was inspired to Start PSA because of his family's decision to move out of the province so he and his brother could pursue their baseball dreams.

Growing up in Mount Pearl, the Sweeney family was a staple in the sporting and baseball community; Ryan's father Ron, coached the Blazers to more than half a dozen provincial championships in the late 90s, early 00's, and his mother Sharon, won numerous volunteer of the year awards for various sporting organizations.

During their baseball careers in Newfoundland, the Sweeney boys made their mark on the local baseball landscape, and would represent the province on numerous occasions collectively:

  • 3X Honda Hit, Run, Throw Nationals
  • 2X 11U Atlantics
  • 1X 13U Atlantics
  • 3X 13U Nationals
  • 2X 15U Atlantics
  • 2X 15U Nationals
  • 3X 18U Nationals
  • 3X Canada Cup
  • 2X Canada Games
  • 2X Team Canada JNT

From there, the Sweeney family made their move to Ontario, where the boys would continue with their high-performance baseball careers. Both Ryan and Ronnie would play multiple years of local ball at the 18U and 21U level with the Kitchener Panthers organization, as well as both playing cross-border competition:

AL, AZ, CT, FL, GA, IL, IN, IA, KS, MI, MN, NY, OH, OK, TN.

After a stint with Team Ontario, Ryan moved over to the Terriers Elite Program, which won the 2006 18U Sandlott' World Series in Nashville, TN, while Ronnie accepted a full Academic & Athletic Scholarship to play NCAA D2 baseball at Upper Iowa University.

After a decade removed from the game, spending the majority of that time working in Asia and the Middle East, coach Ryan stepped away from his travels to start a family with his wife, Amy Sweeney, and to follow his dream to open Premier Sports Academy.

Together, coach Sweeney and his wife have two daughters, Vivienne and Nora. In addition, a dog named Harp, who spends countless hours at Premier Sports entertaining the athletes!

Coach Sweeney is both proud and fond of his baseball memories forged in Newfoundland, and is motivated to help players in this province realize their dreams!

Playing all-star in his local association, at 16 he represented team NL at the 2009 Canada Games alongside Coach Dan Hearn. Three more times he would wear the Team NL colors; 2X Canada Cup, and the 18U Nationals.

After high school, Noah pursued his dream of competitive baseball,  playing four years in the OUA for Brock University in St. Catharines, ON. During his time as a Badger, he captured an OUA Conference Championship in 2010, finishing the season as runner-up in the U-Sport National Championship.

During his OUA career, coach Anderson would spend his summers competing in collegiate leagues throughout North America; Weyburn Beavers of the WCBL in Sask., and the Southland Vikings of the MCL in Chicago.

After graduating with a bachelor’s in Sport Management, Noah began coaching with Brock under OUA legend, Jeff Lounsbury. In 2014, they won another OUA Conference Championship, with the pitching staff finishing at the top in most categories statistically.

After college, Noah played for the Niagara Metros. Playing alongside & being mentored by former MLB pitcher Dave Davidson, coach Noah began to refine his pitching & coaching craft.

Another highlight for Noah is his time spent working & being mentored by Canadian legend & MLB Hall of Famer, Fergie Jenkins. During their time together, they would travel across North America to attend baseball events; this is where Noah learned about assessing & recruiting high performance baseball talent.

As Noah began to transition into his career, he took a job in professional lacrosse as the Manager of Sales and Marketing with the Niagara Lockmonsters of the Canadian Lacrosse League. His final opportunity in professional sports in Ontario came with the Niagara River Lions of the NBLC.

In 2018, Noah returned home to work as the Director of Communications and Social Media for the St. John’s Edge (NBLC). At that time, coach Anderson reconnected with Coach Sweeney and became aware of the PSA dream!

In the fall of 2019, Coach Anderson became the Director of Baseball Operations with Premier Sports, and together with Coach Sweeney, they made the PSA dream a reality!

Coach Anderson’s passion & dedication to developing pitchers & throwers is unmatched locally as he has quickly become one of the best instructors in the country. His philosophy of assessing biomechanics and correcting movement patterns gives him a holistic view of each athlete so that he can implement protocols specific to each individual.

Certified by Driveline, Rapsodo, Pro Play Ai, 108 Performance & OnBaseU (only Certified Coach in Atlantic Canada), Noah is committed to growing as a coach to give every athlete he works with the best experience possible!

Dan Hearn - Director of Athlete Development

Coach Dan grew up in Pasadena, Newfoundland just a short walk away from the local baseball field and basketball court. His passion for sports and athletics was evident from a young age, playing any sport he could!

Baseball and basketball quickly became the sports of choice, maturing to compete at the provincial and national level in both.

Baseball and basketball quickly became the sports of choice, maturing to compete at the provincial and national level in both. Representing Team NL for baseball at the 2009 Canada Games, coach Dan first met and played alongside fellow PSA Coach, Noah Anderson.

After high school, coach Hearn pursued his interest of human movement and performance while studying Kinesiology at Memorial University from 2010-2015. Throughout his undergrad degree, Dan began training local high school athletes and instructing fitness classes in the St. John’s area.

Dan’s passion for high level athletics and sports performance continued to grow, which lead him to move to Houston, Texas in 2016 to study for his Masters in the field of Athletic Training. While attending the University of Houston, coach Hearn worked with a variety of D1 sports teams, including Basketball, Baseball, Soccer, Football, Track & Field, and Volleyball.

In his final year, Dan was fortunate to work and travel with the men’s basketball team, an NCAA D1 powerhouse program lead by Hall of Fame coach Kelvin Sampson. The team which boasted many future NBA and Euroleague players, made a March-Madness run to the ‘Sweet Sixteen’ in the 2018 National Championships.

After graduating with his Master’s in Athletic Training, Daniel moved back to Newfoundland in 2018, and accepted the role of Director of Sports Performance for the St. John’s Edge basketball team of the NBLC. During his time with the Edge, coach Hearn handled the daily physical training and rehabilitative work with the team and worked with notable athletes such as Carl English, Glen “Big Baby’ Davis, and Satnam Sing.

Recognizing the opportunity to work with hundreds of Newfoundland’s upcoming athletes, Daniel transitioned to Premier Sports Academy as the Director of Athletic Development. Since joining the team, Coach Hearn has directly designed, implemented, and overseen the strength and conditioning program for all athletes training at PSA, including multiple National Program members, as well as collegiate athletes.

Helping athletes develop physically and mentally is one of Daniel’s true joys. Creating a training environment that he would have wanted at a young age, coach Dan is committed to helping young athletes reach their true potential and realize the opportunities available to them.
