Premier Sports Academy, located in Paradise, is Newfoundland’s only facility specifically designed for baseball, directly employing industry experts who are dedicated to helping athletes reach their goals. As the owner and operator of our own space, we can provide a wide range of services and programs that cater to both the need and schedule of our athletes. Since opening in January of 2020, we have helped countless athletes; rehabilitate from injury and return to competition, elevate house league players to all-star players, elevate low-level all-star players to provincial teams, placed athletes with US Elite Summer Travel Teams, helped athletes earn scholarships to play US Collegiate baseball, as well as place athletes with the Canadian National Program.
Premier Sports Development Program is a one-of-a-kind, all-inclusive service in Newfoundland, which provides athletes of all skill-levels with the opportunity to pursue their baseball goals; house-league, all-star, provincial team, US travel competition, collegiate, National Team, etc. Through our vast connections and our multi-disciplinary skills-that-scale approach to development (sport-specific, strength and conditioning, mental performance), we have successfully helped countless athletes take the next step on their baseball journey. For more information, please see or Dev Program Page.
PSAs Dev program is an off-season training protocol, which teaches the athletes how and what to train at various times throughout the year, consistent with Long Term Athletic Development. This approach allows the athletes to properly progress in the off-season, significantly minimizes sport-specific repetitive injury, and helps the athletes peak at the correct time for competition. Throughout the duration of the program, athletes will be given the skills to hone their development, and to begin setting and attaining their goals.
Customization of programming and collaboration of highly qualified coaches to provide training for our athletes is what makes our program unique. We recognize that not all athletes are at the same skill-level, and that some individuals will require more attention or time training in specific areas. We are not a cookie-cutter program that requires everyone to be performing the same activities at the same time; we provide our athletes with the opportunity to take control of their development! This is a service unlike any other in the province!
• Membership: 12-month membership, daily during after-school hours. This allows the athletes to get additional sport-specific or strength and conditioning training on their schedule and at their own pace. Coaches are on-site every day to provide guidance and assistance to athletes who wish to spend more time focusing on areas of development that they wish to prioritize.
• Strength & Conditioning: 8-months (Oct-May), 1.5 hours weekly of structured S&C group training. Our S&C is led by one of the very best, Director of Athlete Development, Dan Hearn. Dan has his master’s in athletic training from the University of Houston and has worked in the NCAA and with various Professional sports teams throughout his career.
• Sport Specific Training: 8-months (October-May), 3 hours weekly of structured baseball training. We have various coaches specializing in different aspects of the sport (throwing, pitching, fielding, hitting, catching, etc.) who will take our athletes through a structured and phased plan for their development. Within this structure, athletes can begin to slowly express an area of interest so that they may begin a gradual transition towards positional specialization.
• Mental Prep: 8-months (October-May), 30 minutes weekly of mental performance training. During our mental prep sessions, we introduce the athletes to goal setting, critical thinking, emotional intelligence training, meditation/visualization/breathing routines, all aimed towards teaching athletes how to set and reach their goals, and to maintain emotional regulation throughout the process. On staff, we have a C.C.C certified Counsellor, Susan Pennell, who also serves as a school guidance counsellor, and has experience as a high-performance athlete and coach.
We are proud to announce that this year, we will be offering a female-only group within our Dev Program! We understand that some individuals may feel more comfortable expressing themselves in a group of their peers. As business and sport leaders within our community, we wish to continue to dedicate ourselves to create services which provides inclusiveness for all!
Yes! We understand that sports programming can be a financial burden, so we will work with you to arrange a payment plan that suits your family’s needs. We are also proud to say that we are registered with partners such as Canadian Tire Jumpstart, which aims to offset the cost of sport participation.
We understand that sometimes it is better to hear it from an independent source, we get it! Don't just take our word for it, head over to our testimonial page to see what some of the most influential people in the sport along with some incredibly talented players have to say about us here at PSA!
